The Hidden Cost Of Avoiding AI
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Everyone wants to know what AI costs, but almost nobody runs the numbers on what avoiding AI costs. That blind spot quietly drains time, slows execution, and makes “being too busy” feel permanent. We’re flipping the conversation and putting a spotlight on the real price of doing nothing.
We talk through the most common objections we hear from business owners: AI feels expensive, too complicated, and impossible to fit into an already packed week. Then we break down the hidden costs that don’t show up on a receipt: the hours spent manually writing emails, drafting proposals, and doing research that AI can often handle as a fast first pass. The biggest hit is opportunity cost, the sales calls not made, the client relationships not strengthened, and the growth work that keeps getting pushed to “later.”
We also dig into the competitive gap. Businesses using AI tend to publish more consistently, respond faster, and follow up with less effort. Over time, that difference compounds like interest, because early adopters build systems, refine prompts, and develop habits that make them operate at a different speed. If you’ve been on the fence, this is a clear, practical mindset shift for your AI strategy, marketing automation, and day-to-day operations.

The Objection Business Owners Voice
SPEAKER_00What's happening, everyone? Jason right here. Sarah's with me. And Sarah, I want you to answer something to kick this off. Go for it. When business owners push back on AI, what's the most common thing they say?
SPEAKER_01Probably cost. Too expensive, too complicated, or they don't have the time to figure it out.
Reframing The Real AI Cost
SPEAKER_00That's exactly what I hear too. Today I want to flip that conversation completely, because the cost question is being asked backwards.
SPEAKER_01How so?
SPEAKER_00Everyone asks what AI costs. Nobody asks what not using AI costs. That's the real number you should be looking at.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so what does not using AI actually cost someone?
SPEAKER_00Start with time. If you're manually writing emails, manually drafting proposals, manually doing research, and AI could handle the first pass and all of that. You're looking at hours every week. Multiply that by 52. That's not a small number.
SPEAKER_01There's also the opportunity cost of what you could be doing with those hours instead.
Competitive Gap And Compounding Speed
SPEAKER_00That's the invisible cost. It's not just that you spent six hours writing content. It's that you didn't spend those six hours on a sales call or a client relationship or something that actually moves things forward.
SPEAKER_01What about the competitive side? Because I think that's where it starts to feel more urgent.
SPEAKER_00Competitors who are using AI are producing more content, responding faster, following up more consistently, and probably spending less time doing it. Over a year, that gap compounds in a way that's hard to reverse.
SPEAKER_01I think people underestimate how fast that gap widens too. It doesn't feel like much in month one, but six months in, it's a completely different story.
SPEAKER_00It's like compound interest working against you. The person who started six months ago isn't just slightly ahead. They've built systems, refined their prompts, trained their tools. They're operating at a different speed entirely.
SPEAKER_01So the longer you wait, the more ground you're giving up.
The Core Takeaway And Mindset Shift
SPEAKER_00Every week you wait is a week, someone else is building a habit you haven't started yet. The good news is it's not too late for most people. But the window to catch up closes a little more every month.
SPEAKER_01So the argument isn't that AI is free or that it's perfect. It's that doing nothing carries a cost too. And that cost is usually invisible.
SPEAKER_00Every business decision has a cost attached to it. Standing still is a decision. The question is which cost you're willing to accept.
SPEAKER_01That reframe alone changes how I'd think about this conversation with a business owner who's on the fence.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Yep. You're exactly right. Mind blown, right?
