Your marketing might be working better than you think and you could still be losing most of the money. We dig into the biggest leak we see in small business marketing: paying for website traffic through ads, SEO, and social, then letting visitors leave without ever becoming a lead. When the typical website conversion rate sits around 2% to 3%, that means about 95% of the people you paid to attract disappear with zero way to follow up. That is not “normal,” it is a fixable hole in the bucket.

We walk through the practical shift that changes everything: stop obsessing over getting more clicks and start converting the traffic you already have. We explain why a single high-pressure call to action like “book a call” turns away most new visitors, and how adding a low-commitment option like a free guide, checklist, or quiz can capture emails and increase lead generation fast. From there, we get real about what most businesses skip: the nurture. A captured lead without a follow-up sequence is almost as wasted as the visitor who never opted in.

We also talk tracking and measurement, because you cannot improve what you do not measure. If you are considering paid ads, we share a simple way to check whether your business is ready before you spend money the wrong way. Listen through, then subscribe, share this with a business owner friend, and leave a review if it helps you plug the leak and grow smarter.

If this sparked ideas for your brand or business, subscribe for more deep dives, share the show with a founder who needs focus, and leave a quick review to help others find it. What's happening everyone? Jason Wright here. Georgia's joining me today.

SPEAKER_01

Hey everyone.

SPEAKER_00

I

The Biggest Marketing Money Leak

SPEAKER_00

want to talk about the biggest money leak in small business marketing, and almost nobody's plugging it. You're paying for traffic and then letting it walk right out the door.

SPEAKER_01

What do you mean by walking out the door?

SPEAKER_00

Here's the number that should bother everybody. The average business website converts somewhere around two to three percent of visitors into a lead. That means 95% or more show up, look around, and leave without a trace. You're paying for every one of them, whether it's ads, SEO, social, all that effort and money brings people to your door, and then the vast majority just leave anonymously. Most owners treat that as normal. I treat it as the single biggest leak in the whole operation.

SPEAKER_01

So why does everybody focus on getting more traffic instead of fixing that?

SPEAKER_00

Because more traffic feels like progress. It's the obvious lever. Leads are down, let me buy more clicks. But you're just pouring more water into a bucket with a giant hole in the bottom. Fixing the hole is way cheaper than buying more water.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so how do you actually

Add A Low-Commitment Offer

SPEAKER_01

fix the hole?

SPEAKER_00

A few ways. First, give people more than one reason to raise their hand before they leave. Most sites have exactly one call to

Follow-Up That Actually Converts

SPEAKER_00

action. Book a call. That's a big ask for someone who just landed. You need a smaller step too.

SPEAKER_01

Like what?

SPEAKER_00

A free resource, a quiz, a checklist, something low commitment. The person who isn't ready to book a call might happily grab a free guide. Now you've got their email instead of nothing. You turned an anonymous visitor into a lead you can follow up with.

SPEAKER_01

So you're capturing the people who weren't ready for the big ask yet.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. There's a whole spectrum of readiness. Some people are ready to buy, most aren't yet. If your only option is the big commitment, you lose everyone who's still warming up, the small step catches them.

SPEAKER_01

What's the second thing?

SPEAKER_00

Follow up like you mean it. Capturing the email is step one. Most businesses get the email and then send one boring welcome message and disappear. The money is in the follow-up sequence. The steady, helpful, no pressure, nurture that keeps you around until they're ready.

SPEAKER_01

So the lead isn't the win, the follow-up is The follow-up is where it all pays off.

SPEAKER_00

A captured lead with no follow-up is almost as wasted as the visitor who left. You did the hard part and stopped right before the payoff.

SPEAKER_01

Is there a third piece?

Track Conversion Rate And Improve

SPEAKER_00

Track it. Know your actual conversion rate. Most owners have no idea what percentage of their traffic turns into leads. If you don't know the number, you can't tell if anything you change is working. Measure it, then improve it.

SPEAKER_01

So the whole shift is stop obsessing over more traffic and start converting what you've already got.

SPEAKER_00

That's the entire move. You're already paying for those visitors. Squeeze more value out of the traffic you have before you spend a dime getting more. The leak is cheaper to fix than the faucet is to open wider.

SPEAKER_01

That's a good place to wrap this

Paid Ads Readiness Quiz CTA

episode up.

SPEAKER_00

Quick one before you go. If you've been thinking about running paid ads, but you're not totally sure your business is ready for them, listen up. Most owners guess wrong on this, and guessing wrong gets expensive fast. Head over to intentionallyinspirational.com, click on free resources in the top menu, and take the paid ads readiness quiz. It takes about 30 seconds. You'll find out if paid ads are actually the right move for you right now, or if there's something worth tightening up first. Thanks for listening.
