AI is getting cheaper, faster, and easier to access, and that’s exactly why buying more tools won’t save you. The real advantage is AI literacy: the ability to work with whatever tool you already have and consistently get strong, trustworthy results. When two businesses run the same models but one gets five times the value, the difference isn’t the software. It’s the skill.

We talk through what AI literacy actually means in day-to-day business work, and why it’s the new moat for small teams. Instead of treating AI like a magic button, we treat it like a craft. You’ll hear why “reps over classes” wins, how fluency is built by using AI on real tasks, and how one person on your team can go deep and then teach the rest so the whole company gets better without a big training budget.

Then we lay out a simple, practical curriculum you can start using today: give better context, iterate instead of settling for the first draft, and verify outputs so confident mistakes don’t ship. Along the way we connect the dots to prompt quality, asking better questions, and knowing the limits of the tools so your judgment stays in charge. If you’ve been wondering how to make AI actually useful for marketing, operations, and decision-making, this gives you a clear path.

Before you go, we share a quick resource for business owners thinking about paid ads: take our Paid Ads Readiness Quiz to see if now is the right time or what to tighten up first. Subscribe, share this with a teammate, and leave a review if it helps you build real AI fluency.

Why AI Literacy Beats Hype

SPEAKER_00

What's happening everyone? Jason Wright here. Joining me as always is Georgia.

SPEAKER_01

Hey everyone.

SPEAKER_00

Last episode I told people not to chase the hype. Today I want to talk about the one AI thing that's actually worth investing in. Not tools. Literacy.

SPEAKER_01

Define what you mean by AI literacy, because that could mean a lot of things.

SPEAKER_00

Simple version. It's knowing how to actually work with these tools to get real results. Not which tool to buy, but how to use whatever tool you've got well. The skill, not the software.

SPEAKER_01

And you're saying that's the real differentiator now?

SPEAKER_00

The research is pointing right at it. As the tools themselves become a commodity, the edge moves to the people who know how to use them. Two businesses can have the exact same AI tools, and one gets five times the value out of them. The difference is literacy.

SPEAKER_01

That tracks with what we said a few episodes back, that AI is safest for experts.

SPEAKER_00

Same thread. The person who knows what they're doing gets way more out of the same tool. The model is becoming the commodity. The skill of using it is becoming the moat.

Reps Over Courses For Fluency

SPEAKER_01

So how does a small team actually get fluent? Most don't have a big training budget.

SPEAKER_00

Good news is you don't need one. AI literacy is mostly built by doing, not by taking some expensive course. The most fluent people I know got that way by using the tools every day on real work and paying attention to what worked.

SPEAKER_01

So it's reps, not classes.

SPEAKER_00

Reps over classes. Every time. But you can be smart about the reps.

The Three-Part Literacy Curriculum

SPEAKER_00

Three things speed it up. First, learn to give good context. Most bad AI results come from lazy inputs. Teach your team to give the tool the background it needs and the quality jumps overnight.

SPEAKER_01

That's the asking good questions episode again.

SPEAKER_00

It all connects, doesn't it? Second thing, learn to iterate. The first answer is rarely the best answer. Fluent people go back and forth, refine, push the tool. Beginners take the first response and walk away disappointed. Teaching your team to iterate is huge. And the third, learn to verify. Know when to trust the output and when to check it. That's literacy too. Knowing the tool's limits. A fluent person catches the confident mistakes. A beginner ships them.

SPEAKER_01

So context, iteration, and verification. That's the curriculum.

SPEAKER_00

That's basically the whole curriculum, and none of it costs money. It costs attention and reps. Pick one person on your team, have them go deep, then let them teach the rest. You build literacy from the inside instead of

Why Literacy Levels Small Teams

SPEAKER_00

buying it.

SPEAKER_01

Why does this matter so much for a small business specifically?

SPEAKER_00

Because it levels the field. A small team that's genuinely fluent with AI can punch way above its weight against a bigger competitor that has more tools, but less skill. Literacy is the one advantage you can build without a big budget. That's why it's the new edge.

SPEAKER_01

So invest in the skill, not the stack.

SPEAKER_00

Invest in the skill, not the stack. The tools will keep changing and getting cheaper. The ability to use them well compounds and sticks with you. That's where the real return is.

SPEAKER_01

Solid stuff today.
