Stop Selling Hours And Start Selling Results With AI
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
AI didn’t just speed up the work, it rewired what clients think your work should cost. When buyers can watch a draft appear in seconds or see automation cut days into hours, they start doing new math and that math makes hourly pricing look shaky. We talk through the real problem service providers are facing right now: the faster you get, the more your income gets punished if you still sell time.
We walk step-by-step through the shift to outcome-based pricing and value-based pricing. Instead of defending how long something took, we focus on what the result is worth: more booked calls, more qualified leads, a calendar that stays full, a system that saves hours every week, or an asset that keeps paying back month after month. We also cover how to anchor that value upfront so it doesn’t feel like a random price hike, and how to explain AI in a way that increases trust instead of triggering discount requests.
Retainers come up too, because “flat monthly for effort” feels arbitrary in a world where speed is the baseline. We break down a hybrid model that works better: charge a project fee to build and launch, then move to a retainer once the asset is live and proven, so the ongoing fee is clearly about protecting and improving something that already delivers ROI. If you’ve heard “but it took you less time now,” you’ll leave with language that holds up and a pricing mindset built for the AI era. Subscribe, share this with a service provider friend, and leave a review with your biggest pricing question.
If this sparked ideas for your brand or business, subscribe for more deep dives, share the show with a founder who needs focus, and leave a quick review to help others find it. Welcome And The Pricing Shift
SPEAKER_01What's happening everyone? Jason Wright here. I've got Georgia here with me.
SPEAKER_00Hey everyone.
SPEAKER_01Following up on yesterday, because there's a pricing shift happening right now that I think a lot of service providers are
Stop Selling Time Sell Outcomes
SPEAKER_01missing. Stop selling time, start selling outcomes.
SPEAKER_00We've talked pricing before, but what's different about this specifically?
The Speed Problem With AI
SPEAKER_01The speed problem. Clients are using AI themselves now. They've watched it write a first draft in seconds, root a lead automatically, cut a two-day turnaround into two hours. So when your delivery gets faster, because you're using AI too, and your price stays the same, they notice and they start asking questions.
SPEAKER_00Because the old math was hours times rate.
SPEAKER_01Right, and that math is breaking. If a project used to take you twenty hours and now takes you five, because AI helps you move faster, an hourly model punishes you for getting good at your
Outcome Pricing Makes Speed Profitable
SPEAKER_01job. You did the smart thing, and your invoice shrank.
SPEAKER_00So the fix is charging for the outcome instead of the hours.
SPEAKER_01That's the fix. The client doesn't actually care how many hours it took you. They care whether their calendar filled up, whether their leads increased, whether the problem got solved. Price against that, and speed becomes an advantage instead of a threat to your income.
SPEAKER_00How does someone actually make that shift without it feeling like a random price hike?
How To Anchor Value Upfront
SPEAKER_01You anchor the conversation differently from the start. Instead of here's my hourly rate, you say, here's what this is worth to your business if it works. A system that saves a client ten hours a week and fills three extra slots a month is worth thousands, whether it took me five hours or fifty to build.
SPEAKER_00Does that mean walking away from retainers entirely?
Retainers Reworked With A Hybrid Model
SPEAKER_01Not entirely, but retainers need a rework too. A flat retainer that ignores results feels arbitrary to a client who's watching AI make everyone faster. What's working better is a hybrid. Charge a project fee to build and launch the thing, then move to a retainer once it's live and proven, because now you're clearly getting paid to protect something that's already delivering value.
SPEAKER_00So the retainer becomes about maintaining a working asset, not just staying on payroll.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And that's an easier conversation because the client isn't guessing anymore. They've seen the return. Paying to keep it healthy makes obvious sense once it's already paying for itself.
Handling Pushback On Faster Delivery
SPEAKER_00What do you say to clients who push back and say, but it took you less time now?
SPEAKER_01I tell them the truth. AI handles more of the routine work, so I can spend my time on the thinking that actually grows their business. I'm not cheaper because I use AI. I'm more valuable because I use it well. That framing holds up because it's true.
SPEAKER_00So speed is the thing you lead with, not apologize for.
SPEAKER_01Never apologize for being fast and good. Charge for the result, be transparent about the value, and let the client see exactly why the number is what it is. That's the whole shift. And the businesses making it are the ones who will stay ahead of this pricing squeeze instead of getting crushed by it.
Lead With Speed And Explain Value
SPEAKER_00Solid stuff today.
Free Offer Checklist And Closing
SPEAKER_01One quick thing before you go. If your calendar isn't as full as you'd like it to be, the problem usually isn't your marketing, it's your offer. I put together a free one-page checklist for you. It covers twelve things your offer needs before you spend another dime on ads or another six months on content. Head over to highticket checklist.com and grab it. It takes about two minutes to score yourself, and you'll know exactly where the leaks are. Thanks for hanging out today.
SPEAKER_00Talk soon.
SPEAKER_01See you in the next episode. Stay curious and stay intentional with AI in your business.
